Rail Vehicles

Our vehicle engineering expertise and project experience, which is without parallel in North America, has been successfully applied to Australia. From trams to high speed rail, and all of the permutations in between, we have proven performance in rolling stock procurement and rehabilitation programs.

In New York City alone, we have assisted the local transit and regional rail service providers with the procurement of over 6,700 units of rolling stock. This includes the six most recent series of metro cars totalling over 3,500 vehicles, more than half the fleet, and in excess of 3,200 EMUs accounting for every M-series purchase since the 1960s. The latest metro and EMU fleets have been breaking service reliability records.

In addition, we have done extensive work for the U.S. government-sponsored National Railroad Passenger Corporation, better known as Amtrak. Since its inception in the late 1960s, we have supported Amtrak on more than one hundred assignments for intercity passenger service, including the signature Acela high speed rail service operating in Amtrak’s 730km Northeast Corridor between Boston and Washington DC.

In Australia, we have been engaged by Transport for NSW (TfNSW) in the procurement of their light rail fleet for the recently completed Inner West Light Rail project, and have teams working within TfNSW on the next round of rolling stock modernisation projects.
